You Are Here : Canine Partner in Training Moves to Fairlie
Local resident Barbara MacLean will be looking after and helping to train 18-week old Remus, whilst he carries out his full training at the West of Scotland Satellite. There he will learn vital tasks to assist a person with disabilities such as opening doors, picking up dropped items, pressing pedestrian crossing buttons and helping with the washing.
Remus is hoping to reach the standards attained by fully qualified canine partner Harmony, who is a lifeline for Sally Hyder from Edinburgh. Sally says of Harmony:" If I drop things she picks them up. She fetches help if I fall out of my wheelchair. She even lies across me when my spasms are bad. One of my daughters, who is autistic, has also benefited as Harmony calms her down when she has panic attacks. I am a proper mum again. Life is good."
Annemarie Devlin, Fundraising Manager in Scotland, comments, “This is one of many puppies we have trained in Scotland, to support our efforts to change the lives of people with disabilities in the region. We rely very heavily on volunteers such as Barbara to help look after our puppies in training. Please look out for them both working and having fun around Fairlie.”
