After Care and Retirement

Aftercare

The Partnership Office allocates one of our Aftercare Assistants to provide support to every partnership, ensuring they are long-lasting, happy and healthy. Monitoring the progress of the dog and their Partner continues for the lifetime of the partnership and takes place in the form of regular aftercare visits. Each partnership receives a minimum of 7 visits in the first year and at least 2 visits annually (6 monthly) thereafter.

After Care and Retirement

Retirement

A partnership may last for as long as the dog remains fit and healthy and the Partner is able to manage and care for the dog. We are dedicated to ensuring that during retirement our dogs continue to enjoy happy and contented lives. This may involve the dog remaining with their Partner or identifying a new, loving home. The dogs well-being remains at the heart of all decisions made between the Partner and the charity on an individual basis.

In our ideal world, we encourage Partners to apply for a "successor dog" when their original dog starts to get near to retirement.
