You Are Here : 65 year old man walks 85 miles to raise money Canine Partners
John began the walk from his home town of Surbiton and took in locations such as Dorking, Horsham, Worthing, Littlehampton, Chichester and Arundel. He even had time to pay a visit to the Canine Partners National Training Centre near Midhurst. He has completed many other entertainment themed walks including one in celebration of the work of Ken Dodd, one taking in all the Midsomer Murder locations and is next year planning a 600-mile walk to Scotland in honour of Hollywood actor Christopher Lee.
John comments, “I have met June Whitfield a number of times and both she and her late husband have sponsored me over the years. I therefore felt it appropriate to dedicate a walk to June taking in locations familiar to her home area. June chose the charities to be supported and I was delighted to meet some of the Canine Partners team and receive such a warm welcome when I popped in unexpectedly! £419 of the money I have raised will be going to Canine Partners to continue their wonderful work of changing the lives of people with disabilities.”
Money raised by such dedicated fundraisers goes towards helping people like Jessica Loseby from West Sussex who is a wheelchair user as a result of a spinal injury and lives with her husband, three children and canine partner Ayisha. “Ayisha helps me dress and undress, she allows me to fulfil my role as a mum by helping me everything from tidying up, doing the school run through to supermarket shopping. Even at my lowest ebb Ayisha gets me out of the house and into the world every day. She has halved my pain and doubled my independence - if you want to see a life changed, see ours.”
June Whitfield comments, “John Dodd is a remarkable man who gives a lot of money to charity from these walks, I am delighted that he was able to raise money for Canine Partners. Canine Partners does such a wonderful job of helping those with disabilities to lead an independent life.”
