You Are Here : Braintree Woman to Tackle London 10K Run for Canine Partners
Michelle Lamb from Braintree will be taking to the streets of London on Sunday 10 July 2011, to raise funds for the Essex satellite of national charity Canine Partners - who provides specially trained assistance dogs to people with disabilities.
Michelle is currently in training for the gruelling event that will take her through the heart of our capital city. She has been both a hobbyist and professional in the dog world for most of her life and is a great believer in the power dogs have as healers, teachers and companions.
Michelle comments, “Through my own personal experience, I understand how important a canine companion can be during difficult times. A dog offers unconditional love, a listening ear and the encouragement to get out and about. This becomes more important to people with disabilities, who need extra physical support as well as emotional support. Canine Partners offers just this to those it helps and I am hoping by doing this challenge I will raise both awareness and funds.”
Lindsay Hurrell, community fundraiser for Canine Partners, says: “It’s fantastic that Michelle is running the London 10k for Canine Partners. As a charity that receives no government funding we really do appreciate people’s support in helping us to raise money, so that we can train more assistance dogs to help disabled people within the Essex region.”
Stephanie Flower from Southend has hereditary spastic paraparesis. “Thanks to my canine partner Elmo I can lead a pretty independent life, I could not manage without him. The tasks Elmo helps me with are endless, but include emptying the washing into the basket, letting the cat out, paying at the supermarket checkout and pressing pedestrian crossing buttons.”
Canine Partners still has four charity places available for the London 10K run, so if you would like to take up the challenge please call Jill Green on 01730 716014. To sponsor Michelle, please visit http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/MichelleLamb
