Brumby Family Completes London 10K Run

The Brumbys were hit with various disasters on the day including Dean being struck down by a stomach bug and having to be replaced by a family friend; Faye recovering from a cold; Jane having back spasms; and Elaine suffering from a leg injury and fatigue due to a condition she has just been diagnosed with called fibromyalgia!  However, they all completed the 10K event in times ranging from 51 minutes and 18 seconds to 1hour and 28 minutes – raising over £500 in the process.

Elaine comments, “Despite all the technical hitches, we all really enjoyed taking part in this event.  I have been utterly exhausted since and bed-ridden for a week, but the sense of achievement I have from completing the challenge far outweighs anything else.  I am pleased we have managed to raise some funds for such a worthy charity that really does change the lives of people with disabilities.”

Stephanie Flower from Southend has hereditary spastic paraparesis.  “Thanks to my canine partner Elmo I can lead a pretty independent life, I could not manage without him. The tasks Elmo helps me with are endless, but include emptying the washing into the basket, letting the cat out, paying at the supermarket checkout and pressing pedestrian crossing buttons.”
